The gospel music world is mourning the death of Anthony Burger from a heart attack February 22nd while performing with the Homecoming Friends on the Gaither Bahamas Cruise.
He was playing “We Shall Behold Him” and collapsed onstage.
Being a pianist myself, my heart was broken when I got the news.
I have only got to see him perform once, but I will never forget that night.
Anthony was somebody we pianist could look up to. Though his roots were in Southern Gospel, he combined so many other styles into his playing for a very rich sound.
I pray that God be with his family and all his friends. We will truly miss this great man in our music and concerts, but we must let the Gospel message continue to go out. I am glad to say that I have lived in the Anthony Burger Era of Gospel Music.
God Bless You All,
Jason House
